About
Facundo Dimotta
I have worked in electrical distribution since 2005. For sixteen years I was at a distribution utility in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, where I moved from drafting and project design to site supervision and operations: I designed overhead and underground MV/LV networks, supervised the construction of networks and transformer substations, and managed contractor crews.
Since 2021 I design MV/LV distribution networks independently, and I am building Ampacia, a tool for the pre-design of LV distribution networks.
Education. I am an electrical engineering student at Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN), in the final stage of the degree, and I hold a technician’s degree. I took and passed a postgraduate course on electromagnetic transients in power systems at Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP) while still an undergraduate.
Memberships. IEEE and IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Student Member.
About this site
Zero Cross Engineering is where I study the parts of the grid that field work rarely lets you see: fast transients, harmonics, and the behavior of inverter-based resources and their control. It is a learning notebook written in public.
The name comes from the zero crossing of a sinusoid, the instant when switching does the least harm. The logo is an optocoupler with a zero-crossing triac, a small device that does exactly that.
How the studies are written.
- Each study states the model, the parameters used and its limitations.
- Results are described as what the simulation shows, not as general truths.
- Corrections are made openly: every publication ends with its revision history.
Tools. ATPDraw (ATP-EMTP), MATLAB/Simulink and Python.
